Smart Responses

Freddy doesn't use a one-size-fits-all approach. He automatically picks the fastest and most efficient way to answer each question -- so simple lookups are instant and complex analysis gets the full AI treatment.

How Freddy decides

When you ask Freddy a question, he works through a few steps:

1. Instant data lookups

For straightforward questions about your finances, Freddy goes straight to your data -- no AI needed. This is instant.

Examples:

  • "What's my balance?"
  • "How much did I spend on groceries?"
  • "Show me my net worth"
  • "Am I over budget?"
  • "Find my Countdown transactions"

About 70--80% of the questions people ask are handled this way. You get an answer in under a second.

2. Local AI (Desktop app)

If your question needs a bit more thought -- like explaining a trend, giving a summary, or answering something conversational -- Freddy uses the local AI running on your computer.

Examples:

  • "What's my biggest expense category?"
  • "How long will my savings last?"
  • "What can you help me with?"

3. Cloud AI (When available)

For complex questions that need deeper reasoning, Freddy can use cloud AI for a more thorough answer. This is also how he handles images like receipts (see Receipts & Documents).

Examples:

  • "How can I save more money?"
  • "Analyse my spending trends over the last 6 months"
  • "Compare my spending this month vs last month"
  • "Create a budget plan for me"

What happens if something isn't available?

Freddy is designed to always give you an answer. If one method isn't available, he falls back to the next best option:

  • No cloud AI? He'll use local AI instead.
  • Local AI still loading? He'll pull what he can from your data directly.
  • No AI at all? He'll still answer data questions (balances, transactions, spending) from your accounts.

You never need to choose which method to use -- Freddy handles it all automatically.

When you attach an image (like a photo of a receipt), Freddy knows he needs visual processing and will automatically route to the right tool. See Receipts & Documents for details on what Freddy can do with images.
