Receipts & Documents
Freddy can read photos of receipts, invoices, bank statements, and other financial documents. Just attach an image in the Chat panel and ask him about it.
What can Freddy read?
- Receipts -- snap a photo of a receipt and Freddy will pull out the merchant name, total, and items
- Invoices -- attach an invoice to extract amounts, due dates, and supplier details
- Bank statements -- photograph a paper statement and Freddy will read the transactions
- Tax documents -- IR3s, donation receipts, and other tax paperwork
- Screenshots -- grab a screenshot from your banking app or website
How to use it
- Open the Chat panel
- Click the attachment button (or drag and drop an image)
- Ask Freddy what you'd like to know -- e.g. "What's the total on this receipt?" or "Add this to my expenses"
Freddy will analyse the image and respond with what he finds.
Supported formats
PNG, JPG, JPEG, GIF, and WebP -- basically any common image format.
How it works on Desktop vs Web
Desktop app
The desktop app can scan documents locally on your computer using built-in text recognition. This means your receipt photos don't need to be sent anywhere -- everything is processed privately on your machine.
If you've set up a cloud AI provider in AI Settings, Freddy can also send images to it for more accurate reading (especially useful for blurry photos or unusual layouts).
Web app
The web app uses cloud-based image processing to read your documents. This gives you accurate results without needing any local processing power.
Tips for best results
- Good lighting -- take photos in well-lit conditions for clearer text
- Flat and straight -- lay receipts flat and try to photograph them straight-on
- Full document -- make sure the entire receipt or document is in the frame
- Readable text -- if you can read it with your eyes, Freddy probably can too
Keep your receipts digital
Once Freddy has read a receipt, the information is in your transaction history. No more shoeboxes full of paper receipts at tax time!
